Animals seen today - Jen saw 6 deer and I saw 1 and a turtle.

Sorry for the delay in making a post, been busy, you will read why in a later post.

Water is still high today, wet feet again, becoming a theme. The bugs are also getting worse, stop for a minute and they attempt to carry you away.
It's also wicked muddy now, ugh, good thing there is lots of water to walk through to clean off your shoes.
Today we walked over a long boardwalk through a bird sanctuary which was cool. 
Of course the boardwalk didn't quite go far enough at one end so you could keep your feet dry!

Stopped at a farm store just off the trail before climbing the stairway to heaven. I had a chocolate ice cream in a corn, a brownie and a diet coke! Jen got an ice cream too and a juice. They had these cool games for kids.

The stairway wasn't super long but really steep! Havent see real climbs in a while.


We did see some animals but not many pictures of them, here is the turtle I saw.
I also saw some deer from the car but that doesn't count.


End of the day we found a brew pub and had a beer and good food before calling it a day.

Final 2023 Update

So after our last day hiking on Aug 6th we had events that needed our time and it took us away from the trail for a long time and we have decided to call it for the year.  We may try to come back and finish it next year but have no idea at this point if we will. We did get to see some of the friends we met along the trail later. We had friends on trail nearby and we went to camp to meet them. We also did trail magic at the RT 27 trail head near camp while we waited for them and saw some friends passing through. This is Lucky and Dreamsicle, we met Lucky way down in Georga and Jen became her trail mom.  We hiked off and on with her for awhile and then we got separated but kept tabs on each other. Day 91 Aug 6 Mile 2020.2 to 2026.6 Days miles 6.4 AT Maine total miles.- 37 Allagash total AT Miles - 276.1 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 4 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - Grousse We had spent the night at Strafford Notch campsite with a good water source and a privy which is always nice. The paths through the site were not well marked so we didn't find a good tent pad and just set up on the side of the access trail to it. was pretty flat but also quiet as there were a lot of people there and other dogs. We had one 3k mountain (Little Bigelow) today and then a long 2000 ft decent to get to the car. The terrain was still tough, lots of roots and slick smooth rocks to climb down so was a slower pace than we thought we could do.  There was some nice views from this lower peak though of Sugarloaf. Day 90 Aug 5 Mile 2010 to 2020.2

Day 90 Aug 5 Mile 2010 to 2020.2 Days miles 10.2 AT Maine total miles.- 30.6 Allagash total AT Miles - 269.7 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 9 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - 1 snake Today was a big day, for all of us. We are doing the Bigelow range in two days so have our full packs for an overnight stay.  This is a tough section, really tough first day with climbing 2 3K mountains and 2 4K mountains in one day. Started from RT 27 with a flattish warmup before climbing up to the Horns shelter. Alli has become a log crossing master. . And then the trail started to go up. This is a view of the Horns pond.
