We had spent the night at Strafford Notch campsite with a good water source and a privy which is always nice. The paths through the site were not well marked so we didn't find a good tent pad and just set up on the side of the access trail to it. was pretty flat but also quiet as there were a lot of people there and other dogs.

We had one 3k mountain (Little Bigelow) today and then a long 2000 ft decent to get to the car. The terrain was still tough, lots of roots and slick smooth rocks to climb down so was a slower pace than we thought we could do. 

There was some nice views from this lower peak though of Sugarloaf.

The last couple miles followed a nice stream and Alli was able to take several dips in it to stay cool and rinse off the mud.

Day 51 June 6 Days miles 15.1 AT Mile 802.3 Stayed at Inn Hiking time 6hr Pass plus/minus: +6 Critter Rescue -  2 Total Deer seen - 2 today, 23 total Today Jen and I slackpacked which is hiking without all your gear, all we carried was water, snacks and rain gear, so super light.   We see a lot of hikers doing this and we figured why not try it.  Doing this we had to hike alone in opposite directions, I left her at the northern end to hike south and I drove to the last place we stopped on the trail yesterday and hiked north. When she gets to the car she comes and picks me up. Was a pretty standard day for me hiking, it was more about seeing how my back felt hiking without weight on it.  Jen did get to see the dog Huckleberry and his human HH which was exciting for her. Day 49 June 4th - Change of plans

Day 49 June 4 Days miles 19.3 AT Mile 768.1 Stealth camped at Black Rock Overlook Hiking time 11hr Pass plus/minus - nill Critter Rescue -  8 Total Deer seen - 1 today, 20 total The trail crossed the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) several times at pull over Vista stops but there were no views for us today. In the AM, coming out onto the BRP we saw the lead cyclist in the Roanoke Ironman race, we even got our picture taken as he rode by. This was my pictures of it. Caught up to our friends Snail and AllDay  (Laura and Paul) and hiked with them all day. It was raining off and on we decided to take a break out of the rain under a BRP bridge, did the hobo thing (or maybe trying to be trolls)! We also learned that the last 10 miles before we were to get picked up are closed to camping due to a bear so we decided to buck up and do 2 19 mile days and get out a day early, ugh!
