Total Deer seen - 5 today , 86 total
Animals seen today - Jen saw 1 bear and 2 snakes and 5 deer and I saw 1 snake.

Today was a nice day for hiking till the heat kicked in. 

Going south I missed the alternate route sign to avoid walking the floating plank walkway through the swamp so I got wet, really wet. Jen did not miss the sign and she avoided it.  
So not seeing the sign in my direction I walked through this.
It was still a wet walk as with the recent torrent rain the trails are wet with water running right down it in the trail.

Jen is Miss wildlife seeing 5 deer, 2 snakes and another bear!

We each saw several hikers we know and are amazed that even with the many recent days off the trail we took we are still seeing people we know.

I did see some deer from the car.
After hiking we meet up with Laura and Paul who are a bit ahead of us for dinner. They are shifting gears and getting off the trail for awhile until the conditions improve which we understand. It's hot, humid, raining a lot and now the bugs are getting to be an issue.

Final 2023 Update

So after our last day hiking on Aug 6th we had events that needed our time and it took us away from the trail for a long time and we have decided to call it for the year.  We may try to come back and finish it next year but have no idea at this point if we will. We did get to see some of the friends we met along the trail later. We had friends on trail nearby and we went to camp to meet them. We also did trail magic at the RT 27 trail head near camp while we waited for them and saw some friends passing through. This is Lucky and Dreamsicle, we met Lucky way down in Georga and Jen became her trail mom.  We hiked off and on with her for awhile and then we got separated but kept tabs on each other. Day 91 Aug 6 Mile 2020.2 to 2026.6 Days miles 6.4 AT Maine total miles.- 37 Allagash total AT Miles - 276.1 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 4 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - Grousse We had spent the night at Strafford Notch campsite with a good water source and a privy which is always nice. The paths through the site were not well marked so we didn't find a good tent pad and just set up on the side of the access trail to it. was pretty flat but also quiet as there were a lot of people there and other dogs. We had one 3k mountain (Little Bigelow) today and then a long 2000 ft decent to get to the car. The terrain was still tough, lots of roots and slick smooth rocks to climb down so was a slower pace than we thought we could do.  There was some nice views from this lower peak though of Sugarloaf. Day 90 Aug 5 Mile 2010 to 2020.2 Days miles 10.2 AT Maine total miles.- 30.6 Allagash total AT Miles - 269.7 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 9 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - 1 snake Today was a big day, for all of us. We are doing the Bigelow range in two days so have our full packs for an overnight stay.  This is a tough section, really tough first day with climbing 2 3K mountains and 2 4K mountains in one day. Started from RT 27 with a flattish warmup before climbing up to the Horns shelter. Alli has become a log crossing master. . And then the trail started to go up. This is a view of the Horns pond.
