Today was fun, we set out early, Ontario at 6:20 am so we could get some miles in before the heat and get a real breakfast at a general store about 4 miles down the trail.

Breakfast here was great, we got egg, cheese and meat of our choice, ham for Jen and sausage foe me.  We also got a drink, diet coke for me and got to use a real toilet!  Another exciting thing was a trash can.

It's alot like hiking in Maine now, varies from pine needle covered forest floor with roots to rocks and then borders you have to scramble over.

It was getting hot towards the afternoon and we did alot of field walking, our umbrellas were really nice to have for that.  

Afterwards, we walked into the town of boiling springs and found a great Cafe and had an awesome lunch and a great dessert! 
This is the big spring in this town that gives it the name Boiling Springs.

 Was 3pm by the time we left and we trotted off to find home for the evening.  There have been long water carries as been walking in and around farm fields that are sprayed with pesticides.  

Oh and we did see 4 deer today, Here are two we saw.
So luckily it's been a fairly flat day so we were able to do a big mile day but we are now camping in a small wooded area in a residential area and by the highway so it's noisy and super hot still.

Final 2023 Update

So after our last day hiking on Aug 6th we had events that needed our time and it took us away from the trail for a long time and we have decided to call it for the year.  We may try to come back and finish it next year but have no idea at this point if we will. We did get to see some of the friends we met along the trail later. We had friends on trail nearby and we went to camp to meet them. We also did trail magic at the RT 27 trail head near camp while we waited for them and saw some friends passing through. This is Lucky and Dreamsicle, we met Lucky way down in Georga and Jen became her trail mom.  We hiked off and on with her for awhile and then we got separated but kept tabs on each other. Day 91 Aug 6 Mile 2020.2 to 2026.6 Days miles 6.4 AT Maine total miles.- 37 Allagash total AT Miles - 276.1 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 4 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - Grousse We had spent the night at Strafford Notch campsite with a good water source and a privy which is always nice. The paths through the site were not well marked so we didn't find a good tent pad and just set up on the side of the access trail to it. was pretty flat but also quiet as there were a lot of people there and other dogs. We had one 3k mountain (Little Bigelow) today and then a long 2000 ft decent to get to the car. The terrain was still tough, lots of roots and slick smooth rocks to climb down so was a slower pace than we thought we could do.  There was some nice views from this lower peak though of Sugarloaf. We are doing the Bigelow range in two days so have our full packs for an overnight stay.  This is a tough section, really tough first day with climbing 2 3K mountains and 2 4K mountains in one day. Started from RT 27 with a flattish warmup before climbing up to the Horns shelter. Alli has become a log crossing master. . And then the trail started to go up. This is a view of the Horns pond.
