Today was a short day hiking to get to our car at Peter's Mountain Rd parking lot.  Headed back to the hostel to take a shower and the go do laundry.


Afterwards we went to the local iconic hotel and pub, the Doyle and had a beer and pub food for lunch.  It was lightly busy and when we were done and asked the server to pay he said it was all taken care of!  Another older hiker we know was at another table and we had just given him a stove propane cylinder and thought it was him. But the server said it was a man in his 90s that comes in regularly and pays for everyone's tab when he comes!  We wish we k ew who he was to thank him but we will instead pay it forward some tome at a restaurant.

We then went to the local laundry mat and washed our clothes and used their wifi.  Jen was also able to trade in 5 pairs of Darn Tough socks that had holes in them at the local outfitter, first place that would do that for hikers!

We had intended on getting a hotel room as when I checked the prices before we left for this section they were dirt cheap.  Now lowest price was $125 for a Motel 6!

Afterwards we headed off to find Walmart and REI to hang out in as it is super hot and humid.  Yes we are doing the AL Bundy thing of hanging out in a store to stay cool!

At Walmart we resupplied some food items and also got some cheap folding chairs so when we staying in the roof top camper we can hang out and not have to sit in the car.  At REI Jen found me a deal on some hiking shorts that fit me better and we bought a couple day packs for when we slack pack.  We also found a battery powered fan for the tent, again its hot!

We found a cool brewery, the Appalacian Brewery and had a great meal and beer.

We went to the trail head to set up camp for tomorrow's hike afterward and get ready and let the air cool off.

ZERO Day July 20 to 30th So we headed home as we has some things to take care of, mainly getting our dog Allagash back and getting our car repaired.  The muffler had gone and the brakes were on their last leg. While home also discovered the CRV was having issues so put a new power steering pump on it. We also took the opportunity to visit our parents, kids and grand kids! We need to be around for a spell so we decided to start hiking in Maine however we could.  So while we were home we got Allagash out and walking as much as she would go.  Plan is to hike with her as much as we can till we can start hiking without her again. To enable Allagash to join us and camp in our comfy  roof top tent I needed to figure out a way for her to get in it.  So got a longer ladder setup and some outdoor carpet so she can climb up in it. Final 2023 Update

So after our last day hiking on Aug 6th we had events that needed our time and it took us away from the trail for a long time and we have decided to call it for the year.  We may try to come back and finish it next year but have no idea at this point if we will. We did get to see some of the friends we met along the trail later. We had friends on trail nearby and we went to camp to meet them. We also did trail magic at the RT 27 trail head near camp while we waited for them and saw some friends passing through. This is Lucky and Dreamsicle, we met Lucky way down in Georga and Jen became her trail mom.  We hiked off and on with her for awhile and then we got separated but kept tabs on each other. Day 87 July 31

Day 87 July 31 Days miles 8.3  Section hiked Mile 2001.7 to 2010 The Crockers AT Maine total miles.- 8.3 Allagash total AT Miles - 247.4 Staying at camp Hiking time 6 hr Pass plus/minus: -1 Critter Rescue - 0 Total Deer seen - 1 today , 94 total Animals seen today - 1 Today was Allagash's reintroduction to the trail.  She did 8.3 miles and over 2 4k mountains, So and North Crocker by camp! Also a note on the stats above. Since we leaped ahead to Maine the current mile marker we are at doesn't mean much so I'm going to now start tracking the miles completed in Maine till we finish this state and track the miles our Allagash has hiked on the AT with us. She was a trooper, wasn't a fan of the up but was fine on the downs. She and we all were not a fan of the thunder storm that rolled through and drenched us for the last half of the hike.  The cooler day was nice till that!
