Day 57 June 13 - The food challenge
Day 57 June 13 Days miles 22.8 AT Mile 907
Stealth Tented near High Top Mt lookout
Hiking time 12hr
Pass plus/minus: unknown too many hikers
Critter Rescue - 6
Total Deer seen - 5 today , 33 total
We had a great night sleep at the last stealth site, got up and on trail by 7am. Goal was to do at least 21 miles today so we could make it to Big Meadow lodge tomorrow evening in time for supper!
Today our first goal was to get to the first campground store and wayside by 11 am, was 9 miles away.
I got a diet coke and oreos and Jen got a tea and taffy bar while we waited for Snail and AllDay to shop to resupply. Afterwards we hiked another mile roundntrip off the AT (this mile doesnt count in our total trail miles) to the wayside for lunch, real food!
After burgers and beer we headed off to our final destination which changed to be a bit further to a stealth site with water instead of a shelter, it was to be more than 13 miles, ugh. This is a hiker with his dog Flokey who is such a good sport! Jen got him a burger!
This was more than either Jen or I planned on doing but it allowed hitting the waysides more often so we agreed to follow our friends on this grand plan.
Today was deer day, first we saw 2 does each with a fawn and later saw another doe at a shelter while taking a break!
We got to the spring to fill up with water and another hiker passed us stating he was also headed to the stealth site, oh no we werep thinking. Laura and Jen went on to try and claim a spot while Paul and I got water. We got up there and there was a lot of hikers there, but our partners secured spots big enough for us to set up.
After setting up camp, having a snack and hanging our food we went to the Overlook to see the sunset. There was a bunch of hikers watching it as well, it was beautiful.
