We slackpacked again today to get to Waynesboro, the doorstep to Shanadoah Nat Park! Jen went north and I went south which was more up and it was hot today. Jen beat me to the pick up point by a lot of time, she was proud!
And I saw a BEAR! Yes it was right on the trail, once it saw me it bolted down the hill, didn't have a chance to get my camera out. Later I heard people ahead of me yelling and when we met on the trail they told me there was a big bear in the trail and they scared it off, 2 in one day! I also saw a rattle snake in the trail, it did move off the trail and shook its rattler while I tried to walk by and get a pic. It's hard to see but is in this picture.
Saw some interesting things, remnants of a cabin and an old cementary. Also a really long stone wall in the middle of nowhere.
Some of the trail today was right on the edge of the ridge.
The cut areas on the mountain side of this pic I was told is a ski resort, really?? Snow in Virginia?
We made it to Waynesboro and had trail magic, burgers and beer!
We planned on camping at the YMCA intown that offered use of their showers too but it was closed when we got there and no lawn or space to tent in site so went to Red Roof Inn instead!
Good to see your smiles!
ReplyDeleteThanks, hard to get Jen to stand in front of a camera!
