Day 36 May 20th - To Shelter or not

Got up extra early as we stayed in a shelter and had 2 loud snorers beside us. Next time we see them at a shelter we will be moving on!

Crossed the 1/4 way completed sign.
Met several trail maintainers working on their 70 mile section. This guy has been doing it for over 40 years!
Look at how nice they are.
Passed by the Settlers museum and an original old school house.
Another nice bridge.
Weather was threatening rain in the afternoon and it rained just before we got to the campsite. Rain stopped and we got set up and ate supper before it started to rain again, so evening activity will be resting in our sleeping bags and listening to a podcast!

Almost forgot, we saw a deer!

Day 51 June 6 Days miles 15.1 AT Mile 802.3 Stayed at Inn Hiking time 6hr Pass plus/minus: +6 Critter Rescue -  2 Total Deer seen - 2 today, 23 total Today Jen and I slackpacked which is hiking without all your gear, all we carried was water, snacks and rain gear, so super light.   We see a lot of hikers doing this and we figured why not try it.  Doing this we had to hike alone in opposite directions, I left her at the northern end to hike south and I drove to the last place we stopped on the trail yesterday and hiked north. When she gets to the car she comes and picks me up. Was a pretty standard day for me hiking, it was more about seeing how my back felt hiking without weight on it.  Jen did get to see the dog Huckleberry and his human HH which was exciting for her. Day 90 Aug 5 Mile 2010 to 2020.2 Days miles 10.2 AT Maine total miles.- 30.6 Allagash total AT Miles - 269.7 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 9 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - 1 snake Today was a big day, for all of us. We are doing the Bigelow range in two days so have our full packs for an overnight stay.  This is a tough section, really tough first day with climbing 2 3K mountains and 2 4K mountains in one day. Started from RT 27 with a flattish warmup before climbing up to the Horns shelter. Alli has become a log crossing master. . And then the trail started to go up. This is a view of the Horns pond. Day 89 Aug 3 Days miles 9.9 AT Maine total miles.- 20.5 Allagash total AT Miles - 259.6 Stayed in Car tent night before Hiking time 4.5 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - 1 moose from car It was perfect weather today, cool and sunny, was actually cold starting out. We slept at the trail head in the roof top tent the night before and Allagash did great getting in and out of it. On the drive to our start point Jen saw a moose. There was plenty of signs of moose on the trail. Jen also saw this fellow. The trail was pretty flat which allowed us to make some good time but it was really muddy at times! We walked along the shore of two ponds for quite a while so had nice views and a breeze at times to keep the bugs away.
