Day 30 May 12 - Big miles day!
Day 30 May 12, Days miles 19.2! AT Mile 452.2
Hike time 10hr Over all speed 1.92mpg!
Pass plus/minus 9!
It was a long day but was gentle terrain which made the mileage we did possible.
We had great weather and views till about 3pm when it poured on us, but we got our rain gear on and hiked through it. This is me putting on my rain skirt!
This was as interesting
A notable thing that happened is Jen found and carried someone's water bottle on the side of the trail. We thought it could be one of 3 younger folks who were just ahead of us. Caught up to them but nope not them. It was kind of a blessing as we were short on water so we used some of it. Shortly after we caught up to 2 other guys we had talked with earlier that day and the day before it it was one of their's and returned to him.
Three miles before the shelter we were shooting for, a guy in a camper at the road crossing parking lot was offering trail magic, we thought he said fruit salad and I was like we don't have time as I knew alot of people were headed to the same place. But it was for an ice cream sandwich so we stopped and grabbed one to go!
Afrer hiking through a farm pasture we came across 2 hikers in their tent on the edge of the cow pasture trying to catch water from the storm. They were all out, we gave them a liter between the 2 of us, so 2 water saves for the day.
We made it to Double Spring Shelter and passed 9 other hikers some young and we started behind them!
As we were eating supper at the shelter table the guy who gave us ice cream bars hiked to the shelter, and handed out cookies, beer and soda! We had beer at the shelter while we ate dinner.
It then rained on us again ugh, we didn't bring our rain coats to the shelter so we got wet running back to the tent, hanging our food bags and fixing the sags on the tent.
