April 30 - May 8 Reset
So our trip home was exhausting, got delayed and rerouted by accidents 4 or 5 times. Should have only taken 18 hours but was 22!
Here was one of them.
We discovered using Google maps with its real-time accident notifications a great asset.
On the way home we stopped at an outfitter to check out a backpack you can mainly only get online but I decided it wasn't for me. So I've gone with a Gregory backpack with great back support, it's heavier but worth the weight. It arrived in the mail and all my gear fit in it so we ready to go! I also got a better sleep pad, mine was a cheap one from Amazon and provided little to no warmth under me. I got the same make as Jens, a Thermarest NeoAir Xlite.
Our plan is to drive our own car down and do large sections and get shuttled south of our car and hike to it. We are giving up on the idea of doing a full thru hike and we will come home occasionally. This way we can bring alternate gear and all our resupply needs. You have to get shuttled to towns or hostels/hotels so why not just get shuttled to our car. We met several couples doing this and it makes sense. We are all loaded up!
Our first section will be 115 miles around Damascus VA where the Trail Days event is held and afterward we will go to Trail days to check it out.
Sounds like a good plan moving forward, do it your way!
ReplyDeleteHike your own hike!
ReplyDeleteOt seams to be working, we going to Trail Days today then dropping our car off at next hostel and then shuttled back to when we left off from.
