Day 3 April 4th and 5th
Day 3 Apr 4, days miles 9.4, AT mile 23.6
Hiking hours-7.5, spent over an hour on logistics.
Stayed at stealth site before Dockery Lake trail intersection, stealth.
Note I was going to write something every day and add pics and then post it all when in town but the app can't handle it and crashes so won't be many days or pics in each post.
We hit the trail at 830 am again and moved slowly, we saw on my Garmin Inreach gps the weather for the next few days was turning really bad so we stopped on a hill where we had reception and tried to make reservations at a hostel, over an hour later we had a hotel in Blairsville and a great shuttle driver who was full of good info.
Logistics I'm learning will be our 4 letter word. We obviously called too late to make reservations but hard to when weather is variable.
Anyhow we kept Hiking on, it was hot and so I took my hat off to use my buff on my head. We met a hiker putting on some sun screen, hmm we don't have any, figured the leaves would be out by now.
We were all dragging, it was pushing 80 and was some long stretches between water. We got to Woody Gap where there was a bathroom YEAH! It became very peoplie with day hikers going to a high view called Preachers rock. We made it there though I took a pick of a rock and not the actual view spot.
This is not the rock haha.
Allagash was smoked so we took another long break for her and headed out again. We were hoping to find a stealth spot after a spring but it was dry and needed water first so went on to next water source. We found a stealth site after that, big day, 9 miler.
Jens ankle was doing better and my knee was behaving but I can feel it. We both looking forward to riding out the rain in a hotel room!
Day 4 Apr 5, days miles 3.3 plus .3 to get shuttle ride. AT mile 26.2
Hiking Hours - 2
It was a short hike so we took our time moving out, we had to meet the shuttle at 11 and leaving at 830 again we got there at 1030 better speed.
On the way me met a hiker coming onto the trail through the woods, said he got turned around and ended up on a road and in someone's back yard. He then pulled out a cigarette for a smoke break. We headed out and didn't see him again. We typically get past except by this guy and one couple we call 5 Miler as they are going slow and only doing 5 miles a day.
The shuttle showed up and drove us to a quaint town called Blairsville and dropped us off at the local hotel. The hotel owners are super and support hikers, have a washer and dryer, a hiker box you can leave what you don't want or take what you need. We first got sun screen as we discovered we were both burnt from yesterday, then ate at Chick fil A!
Jen found aloe in the hiker box to soothe our burns, how sweet!
All places with outside seating allow dogs too. Did some laundry, went through our stuff so we can resupply, borrowed the hotel growler and got some beer and pizza from local place, all in walking.distance.
