Day 13 Apr 14 New State!
Day 13 Apr 14th Days miles 10.9 + .6 from Hostel, AT mile 80.1
Hiking Hours 9hrs
It rained most of the day, we started early under the cover of darkness with thunder and lightning happening near a couple of times. Allagash is not a fan of rain or thunder at all.
Another cool one.
We persevered through it and continued on. I had issues all day with my pack, all of a sudden now it's hurting my back on one side. A darn buckle point is pressing on me. I repacked it several times and checked and adjusted the multitude of straps on it to no avail.
Before ending our hike and setting up at Sasafrass Gap during a slowdown in the rain we crossed into North Carolina, we have knocked off a state!
A couple we met at the hostel caught up to us and hiked and chatted for a few miles before leaving us during a grueling assent. Overall today we climbed 3999 ft, that's equal to a 4k mountain!
While lying in the tent during the rain waiting for it to be late enough to sleep we listened to a podcast and looking up at the tent we can see at least 2 leaks! Grrr Hyperlite!!
With now wet clothes we are trying a tip we were told to sleep with the wet clothes in our sleeping bags to let our body heat dry them out, we shall see in the morning! Update: It appears to work!

We did see many interesting trees today, here is one of several of this gender we saw today.
