Day 12 Apr 13
Today was a zero for us where we don't hike any miles. We did laundry, went through our equipment, found some things we really were not using to mail home and so on. We were able to refill our propane can from ones left in the hiker box and a neat tool the hostel had.
We met alot of wonderful people and had fun talking gear and about the trail and where we are from and so on. One couple, Laura and Paul and only 35 and retired. They are very grounded and live simple it sounds which allows them to live as they do.
The Hostel is run by a couple that bought the building for a home to live in as the prior Hostel went under. But as time went on they had hikers asking to stay so they slowly got into hosting hikers and now it's a full time business and they had to move out and buy another home to live in! This is their fun van which they let hikers that stay here sign.
We went to a different town, Clayton for resupply of food and to have dinner at a great pub. Talking to a southbound hiker who is almost done and he saying there is a 30 mile stretch with a bear that is smarter than the average bear and has been getting people's food bags no matter how they were hung! That's going to be interesting!
Allagash needed the break and she is hopefully well rested for hitting the trail tomorrow, in the rain :(
Beware of the bear!
