We need to meet the person at the kennel picking Allagash up and it was a logistical challenge to set a date/time.  She will get picked up tomorrow, Sunday so being it poured last night and we are filthy and haven't had a shower in 6 days!  So we are zeroing (not hiking any miles) tomorrow to clean up, dry up and resupply for the Smokies, which we will start hiking into it on Monday.

Today was a fairly easy day some elevation gain but about 4 miles down into the Gap where Fontana dam is located.  

We stealth camped a mile before this shelter Cable Gap, it looks like one of the original ones, hikers said the roof leaked like a seive!
Made it!
Allagash was excited to see a shuttle van and happily hopped in and didn't say any bad words to anyone in it!. 
She also loved sleeping on the couch!

Final 2023 Update

So after our last day hiking on Aug 6th we had events that needed our time and it took us away from the trail for a long time and we have decided to call it for the year.  We may try to come back and finish it next year but have no idea at this point if we will. We did get to see some of the friends we met along the trail later. We had friends on trail nearby and we went to camp to meet them. We also did trail magic at the RT 27 trail head near camp while we waited for them and saw some friends passing through. This is Lucky and Dreamsicle, we met Lucky way down in Georga and Jen became her trail mom.  We hiked off and on with her for awhile and then we got separated but kept tabs on each other. Day 91 Aug 6 Mile 2020.2 to 2026.6 Days miles 6.4 AT Maine total miles.- 37 Allagash total AT Miles - 276.1 Stayed at Stafford Notch campsite Hiking time 4 hr Total Deer seen - 0 today , 94 total Animals seen today - Grousse We had spent the night at Strafford Notch campsite with a good water source and a privy which is always nice. The paths through the site were not well marked so we didn't find a good tent pad and just set up on the side of the access trail to it. was pretty flat but also quiet as there were a lot of people there and other dogs. We had one 3k mountain (Little Bigelow) today and then a long 2000 ft decent to get to the car. The terrain was still tough, lots of roots and slick smooth rocks to climb down so was a slower pace than we thought we could do.  There was some nice views from this lower peak though of Sugarloaf. We are doing the Bigelow range in two days so have our full packs for an overnight stay.  This is a tough section, really tough first day with climbing 2 3K mountains and 2 4K mountains in one day. Started from RT 27 with a flattish warmup before climbing up to the Horns shelter. Alli has become a log crossing master. . And then the trail started to go up. This is a view of the Horns pond.
